Here is the final comp that I turned in for the first project.
Based on the feedback I got last class, I added some tree branches to the shadow matte on the barrel to break up the areas in full sunlight a little bit. I also refined the edges of the barrel with edge blur and light wrap. It’s pretty subtle but I think it fits in the scene better now.
Additionally, I cleaned up the shadow plate on the left of the screen and added a reflection of the barrel on the ground. Based on the live action reference I shot, this reflection is only really visible in the barrel’s shadow. I think it’s actually more of a lack of a reflection where the barrel blocks the sky.
